“Resistance to Tyrants is Obedience to God”---Whig Slogan of the Revolutionary War Period The following tract is a compilation of facts that are astonishing. When I first learned of them, I was stunned. I began some rudimentary research on key historical dates on the Hebrew Calendar, and found patterns that are absolutely amazing. They are not “hidden patterns”, nor does one need to be a scholar in order to find them. Rather, they can be easily found by accessing a Hebrew Calendar on-line, and by finding key historical dates on this Calendar. There is no need to be any Hebrew Scholar, or any great Rabbi. In fact, one need not even be an Israelite in order to appreciate the fantastic nature of the patterns encoded in the Hebrew Calendar.
During this presentation, I intend to find clues in history testifying to the fact that there is a real G-d in Heaven, and that He has revealed to Humankind His Torah. To Israel, He has revealed the 613 Laws of Moses. He revealed this to all Twelve Tribes, wherever they are in the world. To those that are Gentile, He has revealed His Seven Laws of Noah. The existence of these dates may or may not “prove” the Torah. However, they cast doubt on the notion that the Universe is (G-d forbid) an “accident”.
For the doubter, this tract will attempt to demonstrate that “accidental” dates are not accidental. For the Anti-Semite that believes that Judaism is some “foreign” Religion to American soil, this tract will attempt to show that the Hebrew Calendar is as American as apple pie. Indeed, American history unfolds according to Hebrew patterns, not Gregorian patterns. For the Pre-Millenarian Christian, who shares with the Israelite a belief in a Messianic Age to come, this essay will confirm their faith in Futurism. Finally, for the secular Jew, it will challenge their belief that the only way to be Jewish is through assimilation.
Since the Truth speaks better than I do, I will go ahead and begin the First Chapter. I thank HaShem for having shown these things to me, and I trust in His Providence that this tract will be published and widely disseminated. Additionally, I would like to thank my Hebrew School teachers that taught me Hebrew, and never gave up hope that I would some day embrace the Torah in my own heart, not merely as something external.
I remember the day when I asked a fellow Congregant at my Synagogue about how to find a Hebrew Calendar on-line. My purpose was to find a Hebrew Calendar that I could access by way of the Internet in case my Calendar was lost. He introduced me to the following:
www.kaluach.net I accessed it in order to find holidays and fasts. I found myself starring at a screen with a Calendar listing key Hebrew dates extending to any year in history. I found myself able to access Hebrew dates going centuries back. My curiosity was piqued. I decided to type in the date that most symbolizes the American Revolution, July 4 1776. Of course, our Revolution did not “begin” on that date. However, in our national consciousness, our nation became independent on that date. It is the birthday of our nation as it is celebrated, as valid as any holiday that does not always fall on the actual date of the event it commemorates.
Words cannot describe the astonishment on my face when I saw that July 4, 1776 fell on the seventeenth of Tammuz, 5536. That was the seventeenth day of the fourth month in the Hebrew Year of 5536. This is one of four fast dates pertaining to the destruction of the First and Second Temples. The fast ends at sundown, just before the fireworks would traditionally go off on Fourth of July celebrations. Oddly, without the colonists realizing the fact, our national birthday commemorates the end of a Seventeenth of Tammuz Fast.
I immediately began to explore other dates in American history in order to see if they fell on any important dates. Please let me review them with you now, as they are astonishing in their import. I am not an expert on Calendar changes. Therefore, I have avoided dates that would fall before 1752, even those relevant to American history. I will begin with the repeal of the Stamp Act, the event that heralded the beginning of colonial awareness. The Stamp Act repeal took effect on the twenty-second day of the second month of the Year 5526, May 1, 1766 C.E., a month and a half after Parliament voted for repeal of the Act in March of that year. May 1, 1766 fell on thirteen days before Shevuot, the day of “Pentacost” when the Ten Commandments were first revealed to the Israelites. Thirteen is a number in the Hebrew Calendar that signifies a leap year, a year in which there is thirteen months instead of the usual twelve. Having some years be lunar and some years be solar is a particular aspect of the Hillel Calendar, which is both solar and lunar. Some Christians view thirteen as “bad luck”, but it is my opinion that our Holy G-d creates all numbers for His Purposes.
The repeal of the Stamp Act was the result of colonial agitation. It was the beginning of the end of the belief that the hierarchies of society were established by blasphemous so-called “Divine Right”. The colonists had outwitted an attempt by the English upper classes to impose greater governmental controls on them without representation. Of course, the Parliament retaliated with a “Declaratory Act” asserting their right to tax the colonies with or without representation. The struggle with Parliamentary authority over the colonists was not over. It would come to a head in the Boston Massacre.
The Boston Massacre fell on the eighth day of the twelfth month of the Hebrew Calendar, or 8 Adar 5530 (March 5, 1770). This fell one day after the death of Moses on Adar 7. I am not implying a “connection” to the death of Moses, and this is certainly not the most direct connection to a Hebrew Date that I have found. The “shockers” do not really begin until the advent of the Revolution. Colonial society seems to have been lacking in Hebrew Dates, although, as I admitted, I did not really research the question very well. However, it astonishes me that such an important event in colonial and Revolutionary American history occurs only one day after the death of the greatest Prophet that ever lived. When Moses died, Joshua took over and the advance of the Israelites in to the Holy Land began. A change in leadership came about, one that was inevitable. In some sense, March 4, 1770 was the last “normal day” that the American colonists ever experienced under the rule of their King, George III. On that very Hebrew date, Moses died and a change had to come for the Israelites of old just as it came for colonial Americans.
The American colonists truly became “radicalized” during the Boston Tea Party. During the Boston Tea Party, a number of colonists boarded an English vessel and dumped gallons of tea in to Boston Harbor. This was an act of protest over mercantilist policies that were intended to extend the hierarchical British class structure in to the colonies. The Tea Party event, which happened on December 16 1773, fell directly on Hannukah. Hannukah is the holiday commemorating G-d’s Miraculous Intervention that allowed the Maccabees to claim victory over the Greeks. The Greeks were repressing the practice of Judaism. During the original Hannukah, the weak triumphed over the strong. Certainly the participants who dumped tea in to Boston Harbor also believed, as the Maccabees did, that resistance to tyranny was obedience to G-d.
The ruling authorities of England responded to the non-violent protests of the colonists, their quest for genuine participatory government, by passing more and more legislation (“The Intolerable Acts”). Legislation against dissent is the method that all repressive regimes use against their own people. Dictators attempt to answer protest with force instead of dialogue. The colonists had no choice. On September 5, 1774 the first Continental Congress convened in order to present the British Crown with a united front of the whole American people. This date fell one day before Rosh HaShannah, the Jewish New Year!
Now, here is where things get a little weird. It was no less of a legal scholar than Abraham Lincoln, the man whom the Almighty chose to preserve our Union and to end the evil of slavery on our soil, who declared that October 20, 1774 was the birthday of our Union. On this day, the Articles of Association were signed. This date fell on the fifteenth day of the eighth month, 5535. That date may not seem important, but it is extremely important to an understanding of how the Kingdom of Israel split after the death of King Solomon.
The fifteenth day of the eighth month was a symbol of the end of the rule of the Davidic Monarchy over the Twelve Tribes of Israel. Because of the national sins of Israel during the early years of the Davidic Monarchy, G-d split the Twelve Tribes in to Judah and Israel, Judah to be ruled by the Davidic King Rehoboam and Israel to be ruled by the apostate King Jeroboam. G-d chose Jeroboam to execute His Judgment, and split the Hebrew Nation in to two. Jeroboam used the issue of taxation to raise a rebellion of the Northern Ten Tribes against the Davidic Monarchy, just as the colonists struggled with the English over the issue of taxation.
Jeroboam established a pagan religion to replace Judaism in his domains. The religion of the Golden Calf was revived by Jeroboam after having been suppressed by G-d in the desert. When he was successful in reviving this pagan heresy, he knew that some of his subjects would attempt to return to Judaism. Therefore, he changed the date of Sukkhot from the fifteenth day of the seventh month to the fifteenth day of the eighth month, the exact day that the Articles of Association were signed. This scary “coincidence” can only serve as a warning to us when we reflect that our Union was born on such a date. If we do not struggle against the demons of our own materialism, our unwillingness in 1774 to abolish slavery, and our current willingness to tolerate products made in Third World sweatshops, then we truly become guilty worshippers of the Golden Calf. America is warned by the effective use of this date that she can be judged by her own exalted founding documents, just as surely as the Northern Kingdom was judged by the Torah of Israel.
Not all Hebrew dates are “happy” coincidences. Rather, they exist for the edification of modern man as he looks back in to history. I do not state them for “national glory”. Rather, I state them to remind modern man of the Torah, that his freedom is dependent upon the upholding of Covenants (such as what the Puritans established in the 1600’s). Modern America forgets this. Frankly, 1770’s America may have become a little too proud when it proclaimed that its freedom was “inalienable” while denying it to African Americans and Native Americans. G-d is no respecter of persons. At the same time, the very fact that there is an exalted standard by which we are judged sets America apart from virtually any other Gentile Nation that has ever existed.
The original Patriot’s Day fell on April 19, 1775. This was the date of the Battle of Concord and Lexington, the first battle of the Revolutionary War. The Battle of Concord and Lexington occurred on Passover. The exact date was the nineteenth day of the first month, 5535. Passover celebrates the deliverance of the Israelites from Egyptian bondage. Pharoah and his mighty army had to bend the knee to the Lord of Hosts. One is filled with a numinous sense of awe when one realizes that the battle that began our Revolutionary War fell on precisely that auspicious time of freedom and liberation.
Picking the story up from July 4, 1776 we can see a number of odd and interesting dates that interweave American and Hebraic history. We can also see a number of other strange connections. Oral tradition holds that George Washington wanted six-pointed stars and not five pointed stars on our first flag. The first flag had thirteen stars, some with five points but others with six points. Legend has it that Betsy Ross presented General Washington with the first Flag on June 14, 1777. That date fell on the Sabbath after Shevuot, the giving of the Ten Commandments. Some have claimed that George Washington was unhappy with the five pointed stars that he received from Betsy Ross, desiring the Hebraic six-pointed stars. Historians call these legends “oral history.” Some orthodox historians are unhappy with legends and oral history. Others are more willing to cede oral history a degree of credibility.
The Constitution was signed on the fifth day of the Seventh Month of the Hebrew Calendar (September 17, 1787), a date that falls right in the middle of the Days of Awe, between Rosh HaShannah and Yom Kippur. That time between Rosh HaShannah and Yom Kippur is the time of Judgment, when even the Angels tremble. It should also be noted that the fifth day of the Seventh Month concluded a fast that year, just as the evening of July 4, 1776 concluded a fast. Is Zechariah 8:19 relevant here? Oddly, the Fast of Gedaliah fell on the Fourth Day of the Seventh Hebrew Month of that year, just as July 4 falls on the fourth day of the seventh Gregorian Month. The Constitution was signed on the day immediately following the Fast!
The Bill of Rights was signed on December 15, 1791. This date fell on the nineteenth day of the ninth month of the Hebrew Calendar. In Chassidic Tradition, that is a day that symbolizes Light in the midst of winter darkness. It is not a Biblical Holiday. However, it is recognized in Chassidic Rabbinical Tradition. There were Ten Amendments passed in our Bill of Rights, each one recognizing the rights inherent in every citizen. The First Amendment to that Bill of Rights allowed each and every single American to worship God according to his or her own conscience. Need I tell the reader that “10” has a mystical significance in many traditions, not least of which would be that Ten Commandments were given on Sinai?
We must understand that not all dates are exact. The Declaration of Independence was NOT signed on July 4, 1776. However, it is the date that commemorates the awesome Charter of our Freedom. We honor July 4 as our national birthday, even though the date itself is not precise, just as we sometimes celebrate birthdays on a weekend rather than on the exact date. It is the honored date that seems to matter in this study, not the actual dates that many historians dwell upon. The honored date fell directly on July 4, and that is what seems to matter to our national consciousness. July 4 fell on a fast date, a “coincidence” that cannot be ignored. Oddly, in the Tanakh, there is a statement that, some day, the fast the fasts of Judah would be turned to joy (Zechariah 8:19). I am not suggesting that July 4, 1776 fulfilled this Prophecy. However, I will note that America’s religious freedom has provided unparalleled freedom of worship for followers of Torah, both the Mosaic Law of the Jews and the Noahide Laws of Righteous Gentiles.
The freedom of the new nation would last as long as its people remained followers of moral standards that are objective, tried and true. We became predominant in the world because we followed an egalitarian path while most of the world followed a hierarchical path. Yet, by the nineteen eighties, America became increasingly greedy. Class distinctions grew, as did selfishness and the belief that the so-called “free market” can solve all problems. We must remember the fast date upon which our Declaration of Independence was signed was a fast turned to joy. However, the fast continues as a fast, in part because the Messianic Age has not arrived. At the same time, perhaps the fast continues as a reminder the colonists still refused to abolish slavery. In some sense, the fast date was not ENTIRELY turned to joy, and a Divine Warning still exists for us to avoid pride.
The promises of the Declaration of Independence were fulfilled to a far greater degree than they had been before on another fast day turned (in part) to joy during the Civil War. The Emancipation Proclamation went in to effect on January 1, 1863 C.E. This date fell on the fast of the tenth day of the Tenth Month, 5623. Another fast day was temporarily turned to joy, in anticipation of the World To Come, completing the hope of the Declaration of Independence. The Emancipation Proclamation helped to free our country from charges of hypocrisy leveled against her by foreign powers, most of which retained a loyalty to the aristocratic South over the North, and who wanted to exploit any sign of hypocrisy in Lincoln’s Unionism.
The War to save the Union would thenceforth be about high ideals, not merely the preservation of the Union as a political entity. The American Creed, as scholars have called it, was reinvigorated. The best ideals of Thomas Jefferson were achieved. For a longest time, there had been a compromise between Freedom and Slavery that would only be resolved through a Civil War. From that point onwards, slavery would not exist on American soil!
The Civil War had begun on April 12, 1861. There is nothing significant about this date on the Hebrew Calendar. However, it was on April 15 that things really “ratcheted up”. April 15 was the Monday of the week after Fort Sumter was attacked. Lincoln called for volunteers, while Robert E. Lee declined the command of the Union forces, effectively declaring his support for the Confederacy. This date fell on the Fifth Day of the Second Month. The Fifth Day of the Second Month would become the date celebrating Israeli Independence, an event of monumental importance almost a hundred years later. That date, the Fifth of Iyar, is one day after the date that Israel mourns its war dead. Additionally, on the fourth day of the second month, the date that Israel mourns her dead, George Washington was inaugurated President (April 30, 1789). We can clearly see a pattern of Hebrew dates interacting with important dates in American history!
Continuing with the Civil War, Lee surrendered on the thirteenth day of the First Month, right before Passover. On April 10, celebrations broke out over Washington. This was 14 Nissan, the date of ancient Passover sacrifices. On April 14, Lincoln was assassinated, a date that fell directly on Passover! Oddly, the date that he was assassinated fell right on 19 Nissan. 19 Nissan was the same Passover date that corresponded to the Battle of Concord and Lexington, fought on April 19, 1775! We see an exact ninety-year difference between the two events. Lincoln turned the Fast of the Tenth Month in to a day of joy for millions of slaves (January 1, 1863). His death fell on a national birthday of the nation. No coincidence can be found here. There are no real coincidences.
Oddly, America entered WWI on the Fourteenth of Nissan, the day of ancient Passover sacrifices. This was one day after the Civil War concluded (on the Hebrew Calendar!). Indeed, if Congress declared war that Friday night, then it would actually have fallen on 15 Nissan. That would have been the first day of Passover! WWI ended on the seventh day of the ninth Hebrew month, eighteen days before Channukah. Eighteen is a number of Life in Hebrew Tradition. The war saw the unraveling of life, counting BACKWARD from Channukah and twelve days from the Chassidic day of nineteen Kislev. In some sense, the Civil War and World War I appear to be linked in some strange way to Passover, a time of liberation, in a strange “coincidence.” As terrible as these wars were, millions were liberated from Tyranny after their conclusions.
Hebrew Dates in American history become more vague and murky after this point, but they are still evident. Oddly, the Oklahoma City bombing, an event shrouded in controversy, occurred on April 19, 1995. It was an odd mockery of the original Patriot’s Day event that led to our national liberation. In the case of the Oklahoma City bombing, repressive legislation was passed that made dissent ever more difficult. And, April 19, 1995 fell on 19 Nissan, the exact Hebrew date that April 19, 1775 fell upon. This is a dark coincidence, suggesting the possibility that whoever planned this event wanted it to fall on this date. Remember that there are dark forces in the world, which are against the freedom of men. I do not intend to dwell on this point, because I intend to dwell on Light. However, we must understand that some men who are very wealthy and powerful believe that the only way to have “One World” is under their own dominion and power. The Torah is the key enemy of such men, who do not believe in the Ten Commandments or the Noahide Laws.
Other key Hebrew dates seemed to occur during the impeachment campaign against President Clinton. Of course, the Yom Kippur War involved the United States in some way. Yom Kippur is certainly a date on the Hebrew Calendar. And, the War in Afghanistan began on Sukkhot. The original War in Iraq ended on Purim, while the second War in Iraq began on Shushan Purim. How to interpret these odd “coincidences” is difficult to assess. I have the strong feeling that the more modern “coincidences” may have some degree to which they are deliberately planned. If so, those who have planned these more modern “coincidences” are mocking the G-d Who established the Hebrew Calendar for His Glory, and Whose Guidance I believe established the original “coincidences” in our nation’s past for good. More research is necessary on this point.
It is here that I will break to attempt to dissect this phenomenon, and to discuss it in light of spirituality, science, and history. What really IS going on here? Remember that the Glory of G-d transcends time and space. It is almost a cliché’ to dwell on the fact that Relativity and Quantum Physics made traditional notions of space and time irrelevant. Nineteenth century mathematicians such as Riemann paved the way for modern non-Euclidian geometry. I am not going to fall in to the trap of saying that modern post-Newtonian science proves mysticism, religion, or the “oneness of all existence.” Rather, I am simply stating that space and time are not the absolutes that Euclid once believed that they were. This tells us something about the nature of existence, that an event occurring in time is not independent of other events in time.
Even with its absolute space and time, Euclidian geometry itself holds key mysteries that are interesting. The Euclidian circle is a masterpiece of wonder and excitement. One can SEE the Pythagorean theorem proven simply by inscribing a 90-degree angle in a circle. One can PROVE trigonometric notions simply by looking at geometric shapes inscribed in a circle, notions that eventually led to the development of our understanding of angles. Modern physics is largely dependent upon Euclid’s circles. And, the circle is a figure in which all points of it are equidistance from the center. A circle is finite, but unbounded. Most modern cosmologists believe that our Universe is finite and unbounded.
Many Believers get caught up on “billions” as opposed to “thousands”, and believe that Faith is advanced through continuous arguments with scientists. Yet, as the views of these “Fundamentalists” have spread, we can see that there is no revival or morality in America. Celebrities are more immoral than ever before. Divorce and adultery are considered ever more acceptable. These Believers may win the war in a local school board, but they have lost the culture that they claim to be saving. And, many of them are as corrupt as the fallen society around them.
As real understanding of the Bible is one in which we understand that a Day to the Lord is as a thousand years. The Lord is not bound by time. Of course, “natural selection” is a contradiction in terms. If by “natural” selection we mean random selection, it is a contradiction in terms. “Selection” implies intelligence. All life was selected by the Intelligence that created the DNA, and which created the entire Universe out of nothing. Modern cosmologists call “nothing” a singularity, of the type that exists in the center of black hole, but it is the same thing by another name.
How do we know that the same G-d that created the Universe out of nothing is still involved in human affairs? Many eighteenth century scientific rationalists were Deists. Deists believed that G-d created the world, and then left is to follow natural laws and never intervened after Creation. Such men doubted the Splitting of the Red Sea and other Miracles. Many of our own Founders tended toward Deism. Ben Franklin and Tom Paine probably tended in that direction. However, neither of them went so far as to say that G-d never intervened in human affairs. Franklin, a rationalist, still called for prayer during the national convention in Philadelphia. Tom Paine, a radical revolutionary of the French school who doubted the Bible, still believed in Divine Guidance.
The Founders of this Republic did believe in a God Who intervened in human affairs. To be clear, the Biblical God was not the only model that they accepted. Masonic and other philosophies were present during the foundation of our Nation. Many of them would agree with what I am saying, but would interpret it in a different light. Yet, to be sure, they would AGREE. And, when they appealed to the God of Heaven during the Revolution, He did not engage them in a theological debate. He took their side. A Revolution that should never have been won, waged by a smaller party against a much greater party, was won, with world-changing consequences. And, I believe that it is no small coincidence that the Boston Tea Party fell in Hannukah, when the small party was victorious over the greater party.
If G-d has been intervening in our nation’s history, and if it is true that this view is not inconsistent with modern science and mathematics, then what does this mean for the future? Well, what I believe is that we need to reckon with the Intervention of G-d in modern history. It is not only Deists who doubt this Intervention. Most extremely orthodox religious people seem to cling to past Interventions, without acknowledging modern Interventions. If it is true that G-d intervenes in history, then must we not see events in the world as Judgments and Deliverances? I will not make a definitive assessment on which are which. Nor is it my place. I am simply opening up the possibility that there is a lot more going on in the “random” events of history than we have been led to believe by modern establishment history.
Some will argue that “conspiracy” is the entire reality behind what has been uncovered. As I stated, some of the more modern events in history may have a degree to which they were planned. This is an ominous possibility. However, we must not take the things of G-d and ascribe them to men. Such is what idolaters do. There is a frightening reality to the “conspiracy” that runs much of the economic affairs of this world. These men seem to want to abolish Israel, and hand a great deal of land and territory to the terrorist PLO. Yet, there is a greater Reality to the Torah, and to the G-d Who established Israel. He established His Feasts and Fast Dates. I believe that there is a Reality that is greater than men.
In summation, more research in to the field of “coincidental” dates must be undertaken. For instance, why is it that Columbus Day in 1492 falls on Yom Kippur, Columbus Day on the American calendar of Federal holidays, that is, not the actual date that Columbus reached shore? And, furthermore, what about the Calendar changes that have ensued since? The mystery here is not a simple one. I believe that there is a real G-d Who intervenes in history. His Mysteries are revealed through mysteries on the number line (NOT numerology), through numbers such as the Golden Mean, Pi, and the Fibonacci sequence. They are revealed through the laws of Nature. However, they are also revealed through direct Intervention. If you do not believe it, search it out.
